A Blur

A Blur

It all goes so fast.
Things move, change, adapt, grow, stop, start –
How, why, where, what, when – who knows?
Movement is all I can see.
All that I do know –
The only thing that I can say with certainty –
Is that it comes and it goes
Always in motion,
In a blur – life, passing by.
Never waiting for us to catch up.

Thanks for your comment Claudia. I wrote this one in a fit of pique when I suddenly realized that weeks were flying by and I wasn't taking nearly enough time to appreciate each day... The picture was taken by my husband on one of our photo walks. It's a shot of a train (intentionally blurred, serving as the inspiration for the poem and a tangible reminder of the fleetingness of time) on the tracks that run behind my parent's house. When I was small, I listened to those trains every day and night - always wondering where they were going and what they were carrying. I still find trains rather magically mysterious, and thought this one was rather a great metaphor, myself... :)

Thanks for the comment and I'm glad you liked the poem/picture!

I like this metaphor of the blur to convey life's going by so quickly..brilliant!

It certainly serves as a reminder to slow down and appreciate life, doesn't it?
